Pilot Orientation & Regulations

Welcome
Welcome to California Airlines (CAX). CAX began airline operations on January 1st 2001. Soon after the inauguration of CAX, CAX became one of XPLANE's most sought out virtual airlines. CAX pilots are a part of an elite group of aviation enthusiasts and are part of a dynamic community, and together, we transform CAX from ordinary to extraordinary.

Getting Started-The Flight Operations Room
The Flight Operations Room contains everything a pilot needs to successfully plan and execute their flight. Prior to each flight, pilots are encouraged to check the weather and download the appropriate charts for their flight. After the completion of the flight, a pilot must file a Flight Report so that they receive proper credit for that flight. The Flight Report is entered in the pilot’s log and a copy sent to the hub manager for review. Pilot’s can view their flight logs by selecting their assigned hub.

CAX Pilot Active Status - Monthly Minimums
CAX is a prestigious corporation, and requires each of its pilots maintain an active status. Active status is obtained by flying a minimum of two flights per month. The following flights count towards the monthly minimum:

  • 1. Scheduled CAX flights (includes Express, GB, Special Operations and GC Fleets)
  • 2. Charter flight
A pilot will know when he/she has met the CAX flight minimum through the use of colored dots next to their name on the hub's roster. The dots will have the following meanings:

= Flight minimums have been met for the current month.
= Flight minimums have not been met for the current month.
= Pilot will be deleted if flight minimums are not met by the end of the current month.
= Pilot is on leave of absence (must notify hub manager).

New Pilots
When a pilot first joins CAX they are added to hub they entered on the application, but they are restricted to Cargo flights until they have been promoted to First Officer (10 hrs of Cargo flight time). Upon reaching 10 hrs of Cargo flight time they are promoted to First Officer and given other aircraft to fly.

All new pilots start with zero flight hours. CAX does not allow the transfer of flight hours flown with another virtual airline.

Flight time limitations
A flight crewmember's flight time may not exceed 24 hrs of flight time within a 24 hr period.

First Officer and Above
As a first officer (or above) CAX pilots may fly ANY flight from any of the CAX hubs regardless of which hub they are assigned to. In addition, CAX pilots may fly any Express, Cargo, Golden Cub, Golden Bear, Special Operations, and Alliance Partner flights. First Officer and above may also fly any aircraft that they are qualified to operate as a Charter Flight.

Pilot Ranking and Aircraft Privileges
Pilots are ranked and promoted based on the total number of flight hours flown. Each rank entitles pilots to operate specific aircraft. Pilots may not report flight time for aircraft that they are not qualified to operate.

Charter Flights
A Charter flight is flown from and to any airport of choice as determined by the pilot. The pilot may fly any CAX aircraft that they are qualified to operate as a Charter flight. There is no limit to the number of Charter flights that a pilot can fly per month. This means that CAX pilots have endless possibilities and are not restricted to scheduled flights. NOTAM: Alliance aircraft cannot be used for charter flights.

CAX Online Regulations
CAX flights can be flown on any online network, however, CAX pilots are NOT required to fly their flights online. CAX pilots that choose to fly online must be Online Certified before they can log into any networks using the CAX ICAO call sign. Please refer to our CAX Online Center for more information on using online networks. Although CAX allows pilots to fly their flights on any online network, CAX only prvides technical support for the VATSIM network. In addition, the online certification is conducted on the VATSIM network in collaboration with the ZLA pilot certification system.

Pilot ID Cards
All CAX pilots are given a Pilot ID Card. The Pilot can access their ID Card by clicking on their name in their respective hub's roster. The Pilot ID Card contains special pins that are awarded to the pilot after a certification has been passed.
